Open Positions

Sponsorship & Outreach Representative 

In this position you will be working with both 1) the Sponsorship and Outreach team to carry out basic tasks for your portfolio and 2) a Stay Woke project (eg. events or online magazine) with a mixed team (marketing, outreach, event coordinators etc.) to LEAD and execute outreach tasks. This requires an interest in gaining leadership experience and an interest in using creative thinking and collaboration to accomplish outreach tasks. 

 

  • Outreach and communicate with sponsors for events (both monetary and non-monetary)

  • Aid in creation of sponsorship package and other sponsorship promotional materials

  • Reaching out to personal networks for sponsorship opportunities 

  • Facebook and LinkedIn outreach to promote Stay Woke initiatives and updates

  • Writing applications for grants/funding (training provided)

  • Takes initiative to seek collaborations with external organizations/individuals for various Stay Woke initiatives

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Past sponsorship/outreach experience not required but an asset, dedication, time management, strong verbal and written communication

  • Strong time management skills and ability to balance school with extracurricular commitments 

Time Commitment

Approx. 3 hr/week: monthly general meeting,  bi-weekly portfolio meetings, weekly project meetings

Marketing Representative

In this position you will be working with both 1) the Marketing team to carry out basic tasks for your portfolio and 2) a Stay Woke project (eg. events or online magazine) with a mixed team (marketing, outreach, event coordinators etc.) to LEAD and marketing tasks. This requires an interest in gaining leadership experience and an interest in using creative thinking and collaboration to accomplish marketing tasks. 

  • Collaboration with social media team to develop social media engagement strategies and creative campaigns 

  • Very comfortable taking initiative to form and execute creative visions (eg. creating a marketing campaign with your team to promote an event)

  • Has an understanding of or interest in staying up to date on current issues and social movements (local and global) and is able to perform light research to create content related to prevalent social issues

  • Working with various social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Tik Tok 

  • Able to provide a creative and innovative perspective to guide Stay Woke promotional material and media presence 

  • Taking initiative to guide marketing efforts on a select Stay Woke project/initiatives 

  • Skill Set in video editing (eg. tik tok, iMovie/final cut/adobe Premier, capcut etc.) is an asset but not required

Requirements /Qualifications

  • Strong familiarity with Instagram/Facebook 

  • Past experience with creating social media content and campaigns preferred

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Eye for aesthetics and creativity

  • Some familiarity with (or interest in) social issues and creative mediums 

  • Strong time management skills and ability to balance school with extracurricular commitments 

Time Commitment

2-3 hours/week, monthly general meetings,  bi-weekly portfolio meetings

Content Creator

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Development of creative and engaging (mostly video-based) content related to Stay Woke mission/audience

  • No professional video editing experience is required, just the interest and ability to create reels and tik toks using past event footage and your own recordings!

  • Responsible for creative planning, development and posting of Tik Tok/Reel content 

  • Collaboration with broader team to delegate tasks 

  • Creating content related to Stay Woke projects/initiatives broaden outreach

 

​Requirements/Qualifications

  • Strong familiarity with Tik Tok/Reels

  • Past experience with creating Tik Tok or Reels content

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Creative and innovative thinker

  • Strong time management skills and ability to balance school with extracurricular commitments 

Time Commitment 

2-3 hours/week- approx. 1 video per week, monthly general meetings, bi-weekly portfolio meetings

Video Editor and Content Creator

Roles, Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Responsible for making short video content for Stay Woke social media

  • Edit promotional video content for social media posts

  • Very comfortable using footage to execute creative videos to help launch and promote Stay Woke initiatives and events 

  • Skill set in video editing software (eg. tik tok, capcut, iMovie/Final Cut/Adobe Premiere etc..)

  • Working closely with Tik Tok representatives to plan and execute video content for social media feeds 

  • Videography filming experience is an asset but not required

  • Portfolio with past work available to see

Time Commitment 

2-3 hours- when videos required, monthly general meetings, bi-weekly portfolio meetings

Graphic Designer

Roles, Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Collaborating with graphic designers, content creators and marketing team to curate social media feed

  • Creation of graphics for events, promotional material and sponsorship packages

  • Strong familiarity with graphics creation softwares 

  • Portfolio with past work available to see​

Time Commitment 

Minimum of 1 graphic produced every 1-2 weeks, monthly general meetings, bi-weekly portfolio meetings

Framed Magazine Team Lead

In this role you will be responsible for leading a team of volunteers to organize, plan and execute the publishing and creation of our seasonal youth magazine Framed (see here). Past experience working or submitting to this magazine is not required, but may be an asset - this is a great opportunity for those interested in writing, publishing and doing creative things with a team of equally as passionate youth.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison between general team and founders 

  • Leading and arranging portfolio specific meetings 

  • Leading, execution and volunteer management of all Stay Woke Framed Magazine

  • Checking in/motivating their team 

  • Ability to develop project timeline and hold team accountable to deadlines

  • Seeking opportunities to maximize efficiency, and develop project through innovative and creative methods

  • Motivating team to think creatively in order to expand to new communities and market magazine/seek new communities of submitters 

  • Working with events team and volunteers to plan meaningful ways to engage with Framed submitters and establish a strong community presence

3-4 hours a week, bi-weekly team lead meetings, portfolio meetings, monthly general meetings

Framed Magazine Representative

In this role you will be responsible for collaborating with a team of volunteers to organize, plan and execute the publishing and creation of our seasonal youth magazine Framed (see here).   • Seeking ways to develop project through innovative and creative methods 

  • Guiding the Framed Magazine creative vision 

  • May be assigned to various tasks based on your skill set and personal preference including creative vision (marketing and outreach support), communication and logistics (communication with submittors and stakeholders), event planning (launch party)

  • Organization and time management, ability to balance with other personal and academic commitments 

  • Strong ability to multitask 

  • Strong interest in learning how to publish and create a magazine and interest in learning new things

  • Strong ability to take initiative

Time Commitment 

2-3 hours a week, bi-weekly portfolio meetings, monthly general meetings, time may increase during launch periods 

Event Planner Representative

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the events planning team to execute events throughout the year in alignment with the organization’s mission statement 

  • Guiding the events creative vision (eg. how we want guests to feel, what we want them to gain from the event and figuring out what activities/aesthetics we can employ to achieve this goal)

  • May be assigned to various tasks based on your skill set  and personal preference including creative vision (marketing and outreach support), communication and logistics (communication with stakeholders such as sponsors), etc… 

  • Dedicate time to volunteering at Stay Woke events to fulfill the event’s needs

  • Will be working closely with team to plan summer events primarily, with some time required throughout the school year for less formal events and programs 

  • While the work is online, events will be in person for this position

Content Researcher and Writer

Content Researcher and Writers are responsible for collaborating with their CRD portfolio to research new, interesting and/or controversial topics through an intersectional lens. Researchers use various resources to develop well informed content and information to develop our "Stay Woke Sunday" features on our social media, as well as other opportunities to direct and critically analyze current issues occurring both globally and locally. 

This process includes engaging in content brainstorming during bi-weekly meetings, developing rough content outlines and writing final outlines in collaboration with a diverse team of fellow youth researchers.

This position is for you if you...

  • Enjoy or are looking to gain experience in critical thinking 

  • Are interested in gaining new perspectives AND are comfortable sharing your own perspectives on various social and global issues

  • Are looking to engage a youth audience 

  • Enjoy writing or would like to improve your skills 

  • Are able to commit time to attend and participate in team meetings, and are a good communicator

Time Commitment:​

This position requires an estimated 3 hours per week. This includes monthly general team meetings, bi-weekly CRD portfolio meetings, and 1-2 mini meeting each month to brainstorm, write and create content for posts. You and your team will be responsible for writing 1 post per month (4-week schedule). Please note we halt most activity during exam seasons for high school / post-secondary education!

Ambassador

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Promoting Stay Woke initiatives and content to your personal networks/school/community through social media

  • Supporting Stay Woke initiatives and events

  • Opportunities to become more engaged throughout outreach programs and workshops

 

​Requirements/Qualifications

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Comfortable reaching out/engaging personal networks to promote Stay Woke initiatives

Time Commitment 

Very low time commitment - 2 hours monthly.
